Call for participation: "Special session about Behavior imaging at next ICIP 2014"

Organizers: Séverine Dubuisson (Sorbonne Universités UPMC Paris 06, ISIR), Jean-Marc Odobez (IDIAP Research Institute), Mohamed Chetouani (UPMC Sorbonne Universités UPMC Paris 06, ISIR)

Summary: Human behavior understanding using both computer vision and signal processing has become of major interest since the emergence of numerous applications in various domains, such as social signal processing, affective computing or human-computer interaction. Recent advances in computer vision, signal processing and pattern recognition now make it possible to consider the development of tools or systems for human-human interaction or human-computer interaction analysis. In line with these current efforts, behavior imaging was first introduced in the context of behavioral disorder monitoring (e.g. autism). The key concept of behavior imaging is to improve, through interdisciplinary approaches, automatic computing methods with the long-term goal of enhancing human behavior analysis.

Motivation and Rationale:

The purpose of behavior imaging is to capture, model and analyze social and communicative behaviors during different situations: human-human, human-computer/virtual agent/robot interactions. Long-term goals are very challenging with several open issues. This special session proposes to address several of these challenges by bringing together researchers active in the different areas of behavior imaging, including (but not limited to) human social behavior modeling and analysis (role of the dynamics, joint modeling of different cues, defined on different scales), facial, gesture and speech analysis for behavior and interaction modeling, human- computer or human-human interaction (and their mutual influence during interaction), affective computing, activity analysis, datasets and annotation development for benchmarking. The objective of this special issue is to discuss which methodologies and problems may take advantage of new advanced techniques in the field of image processing, computer vision, machine learning and pattern recognition.
