PhD Scholarship on “Cross-Layer Security and Trust for 6G”

A Ph.D. position is available for a collaborative project between the ETIS UMR 8051 Lab in Clergy (Greater Paris, France) and the A*STAR, Singapore. The successful Ph.D. candidate will spend two years in Singapore and two years in France. The order is negotiable.

Starting date: September / October 2022/Early 2023 (negotiable if necessary)

Description: Beyond fifth-generation (B5G) networks need to cope with diverse threats in a space-air-ground integrated network environment. Other than simply inheriting vulnerabilities from the previous generations, B5G faces new threat vectors, including in the radio and massive Internet of Things (IoT) domains. Furthermore, in B5G, new Key Value Indicators (KVI) have been identified, notably trust and trustworthiness, resilience, and robustness. Also, it must be noted that positioning and high-precision localization will be key built-in features of B5G wireless. In the project CONNECTING, we will focus on trust and trustworthiness for 6G systems. We propose novel, ML-based solutions for novel cross-layer anomaly detection, including at the physical layer through advanced localization techniques.

All international and local graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results are encouraged to apply. MSc level expertise in one of the following areas is highly desirable for this project:

  • Machine learning, artificial intelligence
  • Anomaly detection, IoT security
  • Wireless communications, 5G, 6G,

and related disciplines. Demonstrable mathematical skills and familiarity with IoT security standards will be an advantage. Exposure to proposal writing will be an advantage.

 

About the opportunity and us

The PhD researcher will join the ETIS Laboratory UMR 8051 and A*STAR and will work under the supervision of Dr. Arsenia (Ersi) Chorti at ETIS and Prof. Truong Huu Tram and Dr. Teo Sin Gee (A*STAR). In France, the student will be located at the École Nationale Supérieure de l'Électronique et de ses Applications (ENSEA), a reputable Engineering School (“Grande Ecole”) at the outskirts of Paris (line RER A, station Cergy Prefecture) in France. In Singapore, the student will be located at the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR, Singapore.

About You

Applicants must have (or be close to completion) a MSc degree in a relevant area and should be familiar with key engineering programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, etc.). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work effectively in a team, manage resources and prioritise tasks to achieve project outcomes will be essential. A good knowledge of the English language is required. Knowledge of French is not a pre-requisite.
