The ECE Dpt of Rice University is searching for a postdoc to join the group of Richard Baraniuk, working in the general area of machine learning theory. Rice has a growing capability in this space, and so there will be many additional collaborative opportunities on the applied side with other research groups working in computational imaging, natural language processing, education data science, and beyond. In addition to having a lot of fun, a particular focus of our approach at Rice is preparing PhD graduates for success in academic positions, and our alums are doing very well in leading ECE and CS departments around the world (including France). Houston is a great place to live, with a sub-tropical climate and a thriving arts and restaurant scene; it is also the most multicultural city in the US.

Applicants should have a PhD in signal processing, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or a related area. Applicants need not be a deep learning guru to start working in this area! Research topics of interest include: theoretical understanding of deep learning, deep-learning-based signal and image processing and computer vision, and natural language processing. The postdoc contract will be initially for one year, but is easily extended for additional years.
